After what seemed like an eternity, Premier League action resumed after last week’s International break. Arsenal and Manchester City kicked off the weekend in style with a pulsating 2-2 draw at the Emirates.

FOOTBALL NEWS: EURO 2016 QUALIFIERS KICK OFF

The qualifying stages for the 2016 European Championships kicked of this week across the continent. England’s first competitive match since the World Cup was a potentially tough trip to Switzerland. Arsenal new boy Danny Welbeck finished off two swift counter-attacks in the second half to give the Three Lions victory in Basel.

FOOTBALL NEWS: PREMIER LEAGUE REVIEW, INTERNATIONAL ROUND UP

Manchester City were brought back down to earth with a home defeat to Stoke City. Mame Diouf’s 58th minute goal after a 70 yard run was enough to clinch a victory for the visitors. City’s manager Manuel Pellegrini was bemused by the result, “It’s a surprising defeat because we don’t expect to lose against Stoke but these games sometimes happen.” 

FOOTBALL NEWS: TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY DEALS

Reports suggest that AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao has joined Manchester United on loan for the 2014-15 season. This last minute signing comes as a much needed boost to Louis Van Gaal’s squad after he has failed to win in his first four competitive matches this year. The Colombian is arguably the world’s best centre-forward and should be a success in the Premier League.

FOOTBALL NEWS: PREMIER LEAGUE WRAP-UP, BALOTELLI ARRIVES IN LIVERPOOL, DI MARIA SET TO JOIN MAN UTD

Manchester City have thrown down the gauntlet to their fellow title challengers after a comfortable 3-1 victory versus last years runners-up Liverpool on Monday night. City striker Stefan Jovetic scored two well taken goals to announce himself to the Premier League. The reigning champions look as good, if not better in the early weeks of the season and it will take a magical campaign from either Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool to dethrone them.

FOOTBALL NEWS: TRANSFER UPDATES

Reports have emerged today that Liverpool have agreed to sign Italian hitman Mario Balotelli from AC Milan. The fee is believed to be in the region of £16 million, if this is true then it represents a shrewd investment from Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

This past weekend saw the 23rd edition of the Premier League kick off in England. We saw a plethora of fresh faces play for their new clubs, including a full run out at home for £35 million Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez, a goalscoring debut for Chelsea’s Diego Costa and a reality check for new Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal.
